DESCRIPTION:The Project Manager position in any organization is typically c
 reated with a great deal of responsibility\, without providing an appropri
 ate level of authority. To be effective\, PMs must over time\, acquire a p
 ower base to effectively exert influence over the organization and build a
 n adaptive project execution methodology that maintains risk at acceptable
  levels while operating within the parameters of the triple constraint. Th
 is presentation will discuss various forms of organizational and personal 
 power that PMs can seek out to build a base of power from which to draw up
 on to influence the people\, process and initiatives required for an effec
 tive project completion.
 Our Speakers
 Woodrow W. Winchester\, III\, Ph
 D\, CPEM is currently the Director of Professional Engineering Programs at
  the University of Maryland\, Baltimore County (UMBC). Woodrow is a Certif
 ied Professional Engineering Management Professional (CPEM) with over ten 
 (10) years of technical program and project management experiences. Woodro
 w is also the Director of Professional Development &amp\; Continuing Educa
 tion for the American Society for Engineering Management (ASEM) and is a r
 egular contributor to the ASEM Blog. Selected as a member of the second co
 hort of the NSF sponsored IAspire Leadership Academy\, Woodrow is an advoc
 ate for more equitable and inclusive approaches to technological innovatio
 n and management. As a diversity\, equity\, and inclusion (DEI) thought le
 ader\, Woodrow has published works in influential practitioner-oriented pu
 blications such as INCOSE Insight Magazine\, ACM Interactions\, Fast Compa
 ny Magazine\, and The Conversation.&nbsp\;
 With over 40 years of managem
 ent experience in industry and academia\, Dr. Gouker currently serves as A
 ssistant Graduate Program Director for Professional Engineering Programs a
 t the University of Maryland\, Baltimore County\, where he teaches on a va
 riety of technology leadership and project management subjects. He is the 
 co-author of the Control Account Manager's Handbook\, and holder of severa
 l technology-based patents. Capitalizing on his previous years of experien
 ce as the Provost of the SANS Technology Institute\, he is also consulting
  for the cybersecurity practice at First Health Advisory utilizing a build
 \, rather than buy strategy for the development of the unique cybersecurit
 y team members required to help healthcare delivery organizations secure t
 heir connected assets.
